Breckenridge in the Summer!

For this July 4th weekend, we decided (actually I decided) that we were going to head to the mountains and do one of my favorite things… hang out at a ski town in the summer!   If you have never done it, I highly recommend checking out Breckenridge.  It is so pretty, so fun, and not nearly as busy as ski season is.  In fact, it is a great time to check out Breckenridge and get your bearings so you know exactly what to do, where to go, and where to stay during ski season.

There is so much going on in the town for July 4th… even if you miss the parade like we did (life with kids… things rarely go as planned!).  The streets are full of music, activities, and people totally decked out in their best red, white, and  blue.  Unfortunately, due to wildfires, there are no fireworks in the mountains.

Saturday night went we got in, we went straight to my favorite Breckenridge restaurant, Aurum.  Everything there is so delicious… all of us ate so well. I also love that Aurum is family friendly and dealt with our crazy crew with ease.  After that we checked into our gorgeous slope side view 2br condo at One Ski Hill Place.  I loved this place so much.  It was really clean, great views, and the perfect amount of space for our family of five.  Definitely a contender for a ski season stay!  The kids loved the kiddie pool and the fact that we could see all the activities happening right off our balcony.  I loved that it is right at the gondola stop which makes it super easy with kids to get around.  I will say though that there aren’t a ton of food options once you are at the hotel so you must make it to town for variety.  On Sunday, we walked to town (hence missing the July 4th parade!), but then made to back up for some swimming and the alpine slide.  Then we headed back to town to eat vegan pizza at Piante Pizzeria in an Alpenglobe which was a fun experience.  I think I want an alpenglobe in my backyard…

The next day, my husband and I got a sitter during the day ( yay!) and did a 10 mile hike to the next town over.  It was such a beautiful hike, not too much elevation, but perfect for the day.  We checked out Frisco (which is such a cute town) and had celebratory drinks… celebrating a break from the kiddos, who were not that easy on this trip, and getting through the long hike!  Breckenridge is still one of my top places to go in CO!!
